Natalie and Simon’s cheerful blue bathroom in the Vale of Glamorgan is definitely a scroll stopper on Instagram! We loved watching the progress of this room into a haven of cheerful yellow and bold blue, and the fact that the tiles were the basis for the rest of the room.
We purchased our 1820’s neglected and dated farmhouse in November 2019. We knew we were taking on a complete renovation project and had a slightly daunting but exciting adventure ahead of us.
When it came to renovating the damp and mouldy old shower room, we didn’t have any specific style or design in mind so spent hours browsing the internet for ideas.
We came across these stunning Avila blue metro tiles from Direct Tile Warehouse and knew we’d found the starting point for our blue bathroom. First thing the following morning we phoned our nearest store to place the order. They didn’t have enough in stock locally, but the friendly team ordered them to be sent over from another store and we were able to collect within just two or three days.
Creating our Blue Bathroom
From that point onwards the rest of the room evolved and the tiles influenced not only the rest of the colour scheme but the actual style of the room. We took the plunge (no pun intended!) and chose a deep freestanding bath to sit in the tiled alcove. We had overestimated the tiles by the recommended 10% (plus a bit extra for any rookie mistakes!) and loved the look of the bath alcove so much we decided to tile the rest of the walls half height to match.
We needed some extra tiles to complete the room and again the local store couldn’t have been more helpful or informative, giving us a great piece of advice to mix the new tiles with the first batch in case of any slight colour variance and offering handy hints on grouting techniques to us novice tilers!
From the starting point of a seemingly simple tile colour, our slightly bonkers, bright and colourful bathroom has emerged and we couldn’t be happier. We wouldn’t hesitate to recommend Direct Tile Warehouse to anyone looking for tiles! We have many more rooms left to renovate and they will be our first stop for both wall and floor tiles.
